Staunton stars for Carnacon

CARNACON and Inch Rovers will meet in the Ladies All-Ireland Club SFC final for the third time in four years after they were both victorious in their semi-finals yesterday.

Cora Staunton scored 1-14 as Carnacon enjoyed a 2-16 to 2-6 victory away to Timahoe of Laois. The Mayo champions, All-Ireland winners in 2007 and '08 were always in control of this game and led by 0-11 to 1-2 at half-time, Mary Casey scoring Timahoe's goal.

With Staunton and Martha Carter getting goals for Carnacon, the outcome was decided long before the end, though the home side did pull a goal back late on through Maggie Murphy.

Cork's Inch Rovers, defeated by Carnacon in both of those previous deciders, won at Termon of Donegal. Inch led by 0-9 to 1-3 at the break, Mary O'Connor scoring the bulk of their points, though Roisin Friel's penalty ensured that Termon were still in contention at the interval.

A Sarah Harrington goal for Inch gave them a six-point lead early in the second half and though Termon, aided by a goal from Geraldine McLoughlin, did cut that gap to two, a late Jill Horan green flag eased any nerves Inch had as they won by 2-12 to 2-9.

St Conleth's of Laois will play West Clare Gaels in the intermediate final after they were victorious in their semi-finals over the weekend, while St Enda's (Tyrone) meet Galway's Caltra Cuans in the junior decider.
