Sizzling Mackey eases Cavan's relegation fears

Cavan 0-20
Offaly 0-14

Cavan hit four unanswered points on three separate occasions to ease their relegation worries at Kingspan/Breffni Park.

In perfect conditions, the first half was a purist's delight with both teams playing some top-drawer football. Cavan opened up a 0-5 to 0-2 lead in a sparkling opening seven minutes.

In-form Cian Mackey notched four sweet points as turbo-charged Cavan raced into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead as early as the 18th minute.

However, Offaly's John Reynolds bagged four points to cut Cavan's lead to a point at the interval. Four unanswered points on the restart had Cavan cruising, but Niall McNamee hit a brace to help tie matters at 0-12 apiece after 52 minutes.

Cavan again hit four without reply and although Reynolds and Scott Brady gave the visitors hope, the blues hit four on the bounce once more to cruise home.
