(preliminary round)

Garda College v Cork IT, Templemore, 2.0

The Garda College won the corresponding fixture 12 months ago and are always a tough nut to crack on home soil. And with Carlow's Brendan Murphy (pictured), Cork's Peter Kelleher and Clare's Eoin Cleary in their ranks they'll fancy their chances of upsetting the odds.

CIT, whose sole Sigerson Cup success came in 2009, have a sprinkling of Cork's 2016 beaten U-21 All-Ireland finalists including Anthony Casey, Eoin Lavers, Brian Coakley and Dylan Quinn and are favoured to get the job done and set up a home tie with UUJ in the next round.

Odds: Garda 7/2 CIT 2/9 Draw 10/1

Verdict: CIT

GMIT v IT Sligo, Tuam Stadium, 2.0

GMIT had a disastrous string of results in the Connacht SFL, conceding 10-45 over the course of their first two games against Leitrim and Sligo, before eventually conceding their final game against Galway. They will rely heavily on Galway attacker Eamon Brannigan if they are to cause a shock on home soil.

IT Sligo recovered from a Roscommon battering in the Connacht SFL before a competitive showing against Mayo and with Mayo's James Shaughnessy in fine form up front they should have enough to set up a home tie against last year's champions UCD.

Odds: GMIT 7/2 IT Sligo 2/9 Draw 9/1

Verdict: IT Sligo
