Wexford advanced to the Leinster final following a comfortable victory over Longford at a sun-kissed Pearse Park last night.

The young Slaneysiders powered out of the blocks and raced into a two point lead thanks well-taken points from Niall Harney and Ciaran Redmond. Longford kept in touch and points from Larry Moran, Paddy Kiernan and Darren Gallagher reduced the margin midway through the first half.

But their lack of discipline proved Longford's downfall and Wexford's marksman Niall Harney kicked five points in the opening half.

Despite losing out in the midfield, Longford caught the visitors on the counter-attack and two points from Fergal Sheridan and Darren Gallagher left just a point between the teams at half-time.

Wexford dominated after the break and a brace of points from Ciaran Redmond and second half substitute Declan Murphy stretched their lead.

They really upped the tempo in the final quarter when three goals from full-forward Kevin Rowe and points from Robbie Vallejo and Sean Gaul sealed Longford's fate.
