It might not have been very suspenseful when Mayo were ruling Connacht but at least the standard of football was high.

After five years of victory, the county were beaten by Galway in the provincial semi-final this year to set up a decider between the Tribesmen and Roscommon.

Given that Kevin Walsh's men had taken such an impressive scalp and that Roscommon made the Division 1 semi-final this spring, expectations were high that we might be treated to an exciting Connacht final this afternoon.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Awful weather conditions coupled with a lack of adventure - particularly from Roscommon - turned the contest into one of the worst provincial finals in living memory.

The closing 20 seconds summed up the drawn game, with Roscommon handpassing the ball laterally in Galway territory, unwillingly to take a shot despite the reward of winning a Connacht title staring them in the face.

Joe Brolly was blunt afterwards on RTE, tipping Galway to win the replay because he thinks Roscommon are 'useless'.

The reaction on social media was similarly harsh, with people no doubt annoyed that they wasted a portion of their Sunday afternoon on such a poor encounter.
