Amazingly, this month will see the draw for the 2017 championship take place while last week saw the nominations for the GAA/GPA All Star awards announced.

The team selection generates a huge amount of debate each year and it is good fun to sit down and try to pick just 15 players after such a long championship campaign.

The bookies have around ten players pencilled in as nailed on All Stars judging by the odds, with a handful of positions set to be keenly contested.

In yesterday's Sunday Independent, Alan Brogan was tasked with naming a championship XV. The former Dublin star gave Jim Gavin's two in-a-row team eight spots in his selection, and it will be interesting to see if Brogan's dream team closely resembles the All Star side when it is announced next month.

Brogan selected Dublin's Brian Fenton as the Player of the Year.

Here is Brogan's 2016 All Star team.
