Reilly goal nicks it for Cavan

Cavan 2-8 Longford 1-10 Leinster JFC

A last-minute goal from Martin Reilly secured victory for Cavan at Pearse Park.

The Midlanders looked set for victory in the closing minutes, but their wheels came off after Robbie Smyth was issued a straight red following an off-the-ball incident involving Cavan's Darragh Tighe.

Cavan held a one-point advantage at the turnover. Corner-forward Martin Dunne fired two points over from placed balls, while points from Barry McKiernan and Oisin O'Connell completed the inside full-forward line scoring.

After the break, Longford turned things around and raced into a four-point lead following a goal from Smyth and points from Pauric Gill and Aidan Rowan.

Longford should have bagged their second goal 10 minutes into the second half. Centre-forward Darren Reilly got into a great position, but Cavan netminder James Farrelly pulled off a terrific save to keep them in contention.

In the final quarter Cavan continued to reduce the margins significantly and they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with the final kick of the game as Reilly fired the ball home from point-blank range.
