Reigning Leinster champions Ballymahon SS eventually got the better of St Peter's Dunboyne on home turf yesterday.

The Longford school always looked in control during a lacklustre encounter, with five points from sharpshooter Martin Rock a big help.

Both teams enjoyed periods of dominance during the first half exchanges, but it was St Peter's who had the best goal chance when Adam Hanley was denied on the line by full-back Jim Rock.

St Peter's led by two at the break, but on the resumption, the home side quickly brought the game back to level terms.

Points from Martin Rock and two converted frees from Eoin Coughlin put them in the ascendancy and they wrapped things up in the closing stages with David Quinn sealing the victory.
