St Mel's began their quest to win a record 30th Leinster title by posting three goals in the first 10 minutes at Pearse Park.

They held an 11-point lead before Craig Mooney opened Salesians' account with a free, but Mel's place in the second-round draw was never in doubt.

Killoe full-forward Larry Moran was the star of the show with two of those three goals, with Rory Sullivan adding the third.

Salesians were given a glimmer of hope early in the second half when corner-back Cillian Lee was deemed to have carried the ball over his own line for an own goal, but Mel's responded brilliantly, scoring the next four points.

Jack Bailey rounded off the goalscoring late on, but Mel's continue to press home their advantage with a string of fine scores, including two eye-catching efforts from substitute Ciarán Donohoe.
