Offaly were full value for their six-point victory over a Limerick side who went out of the division without much of a whimper at Newcastle West.

Apart from the opening 10 minutes Offaly were in control for the remainder of a one-sided affair and with eight minutes remaining they led by 11 points.

The home side suffered a double blow before the start when Ian Ryan and Tom Lee were ruled out.

Offaly made a slow start and Limerick led 0-3 to 0-0 inside five minutes with two points by Danny Neville, one free, and Killian Ryan. Michael Brazil opened the Offaly account which was followed by a point by Limerick's Peter Nash.

Offaly then had seven unanswered points in a 14-minute spell with Anton Sullivan, Nigel Dunne (twice), Peter Cunningham, Johnny Moloney, Leon Fox and Niall McNamee on target to put them 0-8 to 0-6 in front.

By half-time, Offaly led by 0-9 to 0-6 and once they had the opening three points of the second half the outcome was clear.

Their goal was scored by Sean Pender on 56 minutes and that saw the midlanders extend their lead to 10 points and put the result beyond doubt.
