The new champions were never headed and stormed into a 1-5 to 0-2 lead by the 15th minute, their goal coming from Jamie Kenny.

Old Leighlin showed spirit and three unanswered points were followed by a cracking equalising goal from Willie Minchin.

Palatine steadied with points from Paul and David Reid to establish a two-point interval lead.

Ciarán Moran got on the end of a flowing movement in the 38th minute to put Palatine 2-8 to 1-6 ahead. But a wonderful individual goal from Old Leighlin midfielder Hughie Gahan trimmed the leeway to two points.

A turning point came when Palatine's Conor Lawlor took the ball off his own goaline as Old Leighlin looked set to score a goal.

The introduction of veteran forward Brian Kelly steadied the Palatine ship and he struck two late points as they took the title to add to previous wins in 1919, 1920, 1952 and 2006.
