Paddy Durcan led the way as Castlebar Mitchels romped home 3-13 to 0-10 against Knockmore to take their 30th Mayo SFC title.

The Mayo star shot 1-3 as the holders saw off the Knockmore challenge at MacHale Park. Castlebar Mitchels led by 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time having responded well to a good start by a Knockmore side bidding for their first crown since 1997.

Sean Rutledge, Peter Naughton and Colm Reape found the target for Knockmore to lead by 0-3 to 0-1 after just nine minutes. But Durcan and Neil Douglas hit five points between them and Aidan Walsh also hit the range from distance as the champions pulled away. Knockmore were given some hope when county player Kevin McLoughlin got their first point in 18 minutes to leave it 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval.

Durcan got Castlebar’s first goal six minutes after the restart and they pulled away to with Douglas and Barry Moran also finding the net.
