O'Rourke has hip operation

Meath's Shane O'Rourke has undergone a hip operation for the second time this year, WRITES COLM KEYS.

O'Rourke had surgery in London earlier this week in the latest attempt to correct a hip problem that is threatening his career.

The 24-year-old previously had an operation for the same injury earlier this year, but was unable to resume playing with the Royals.

But the same surgeon, who has recently operated on Irish rugby international Sean O'Brien, has given him hope that he may be able to resume at some stage in 2013.

O'Rourke has been a member of the Meath squad since 2007, but has been plagued with a series of injuries since then.
