Kerry club Castlegregory were crowned champions after a pulsating decider against Mayo side Kiltimagh in Croke Park yesterday afternoon.

Castlegregory needed extra-time before emerging victorious and it took a dramatic 60th-minute goal by corner-forward Colm O'Mahony, when he fisted home a Shane Hennessy free, to save them in regular time, when Kiltimagh had been on the verge of success.

That O'Mahony strike put Castlegregory 1-9 to 0-11 ahead but Ciaran Charlton was the Kiltimagh hero with an injury-time free that sent the game into two additional periods.

Kiltimagh, who were the livelier outfit in normal time, and who led 0-6 to 0-4 at the interval, began extra-time with a great point by Micheal Schlingermann.

But Castlegregory stepped it up thereafter, man-of-the-match Hennessy and O'Mahony helping them to a 1-12 to 0-13 advantage midway through extra-time.

Kiltimagh came back again and when Charlton slotted over his seventh point in the 78th minute, there was just the minimum between them at 1-13 to 0-15.

Charlton had a chance to equalise soon after but his kick dropped short. Thereafter Alan Fitzgerald clinched success for Castlegregory with a late point.
