Castleknock 1-12

Kenmare finally shook off Castleknock's challenge, at the third attempt, to qualify for the final.

Last night's second replay was not quite as close as the two previous cliffhangers, with the Dublin champions always chasing a confident Kerry side.

Full-forward Paul O'Connor was the difference, a 1-8 tally from the Kerry attacker leading his side to a first decider and another visit to Croke Park for the biggest game in the club's history.

Dubs starlet Ciaran Kilkenny did his utmost to drag his side back into it in the second half, but his artistry was not sufficient to deny Kenmare.

The sides were level on four occasion early on, with Rorory Corcoran equalising for the Dublin side on 0-5 each.

Two O'Connor scores made it 0-7 to 0-5 in favour of the Kingdom champions, and he struck for a 27th-minute goal, finishing low to the net after collecting a high ball.

Castleknock responded with points from Des Carlos and Kilkenny. But it was the Munster side who held the advantage at the halfway stage, ahead by 1-10 to 0-7.

The Leinster side rallied with points from Kilkenny and a goal from Corcoran but the in-form O'Connor punished hesitancy in the opposition defence with another almost effortless point, with Mark Crowley and Alan O'Leary also raising white flags for a four-point cushion.

Castleknock were awarded a late penalty, but Corcoran's shot was saved by Hughie Murphy.
