O'Connor hit 2-6, including a brace of penalty goals, as the New Ross school retained the title they won at the same venue last year.

St Brendan's trailed by 1-9 to 2-1 at half-time - goals from David Spillane and Mark Harnett kept them in touch with wind advantage to come.

However, O'Connor's second penalty goal drove Counsel on and they led by ten points at one stage before a late Brendan's revival.

While the Kerry side scored an unanswered 1-4 in the last eight minutes, with the goal from David Clifford, it wasn't enough as Counsel were left celebrating.
