Rory O'Connor scored a cracking 41st-minute goal into the wind and that proved crucial as St Peter's Wexford held off a late surge from St Mary's Magherafelt to edge home in a thrilling Masita All-Ireland Post-Primary Schools SFC 'A' semi-final at Inniskeen.

With the wind, St Peter's set about imposing themselves early on but a skilful Mary's outfit packed midfield in a bid to nullify the influence of O'Connor, and the scoring threat of Barry O'Connor and Cathal Devereux.

Mary's goalkeeper Odhran Lynch did well to keep out a Barry O'Connor shot but a string of points from Ben Maddock, Brian Deeny, Rory O'Connor, Dylan Furlong and Cathal Devereux soon edged Peter's into a 0-8 to 0-5 lead, as points from Sean Kelly, Tiarnan McAteer and Kieran McCann kept St Mary's in touch.

However, Peter's got a huge boost before the break when Quinn Saunders' rising shot for a goal gave them a 1-8 to 0-5 interval lead.

On the resumption, Sean Kelly found the net for Mary's and a Cormac Murphy point left just two points separating the sides but 11 minutes into the second half a fine Rory O'Connor goal was to prove crucial as it put his side into a 2-8 to 1-6 lead. St Peter's defence held on defiantly despite Matthew Rodgers' goal setting up a tense finale and they will now face champions St Brendan's, Killarney in the final.
