Galway, who have a chance to avenge last year's final defeat to Mayo, showed steel to bounce back from Jack Heslin's seventh-minute goal.

Leitrim won the toss and despite playing with the breeze in the first half they trailed 1-7 to 1-3 at half-time.

Leitrim led 1-1 to 0-1 after Heslin's goal, but Matthew Reddington scored a crucial point. Galway hit 1-2 without reply and when O'Laoi concluded the scoring before half-time they led by four.

Alan Molloy kicked a fine point as Galway began the second half well, and O'Laoi pushed them six clear, but Leitrim scored three in a row to get back in contention, before Galway pulled clear again.

They hit six in a row, with Reddington scoring his third and fourth points, and Michael Day was also brilliant.
