Meath fielded a completely different 15 to the one that saw off Wicklow by 19 points last Sunday but still managed a comfortable win in the O'Byrne Cup at Ashbourne.

Christy Ring winning hurling captain James Toher made his debut at midfield as did Stuart Lowndes, who lined out for Dublin against Meath in 2015. Former star forward Joe Sheridan was named as sub 'keeper but was the only unused Meath man.

The students played with the breeze throughout the opening half but were behind by 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.

Meath restarted with two goals in a five-minute spell as Donal Lenihan, who finished with a tally of 1-5, took advantage of a poor kick-out and minutes later Bobby O'Brien found the net to put the hosts in control.

Meath hit six unanswered points before the finish.
