Moriarty leads Curraha charge
Curraha (Meath) 3-10 St Brigid's (Longford) 1-11
Curraha claimed this year's Leinster junior football title after an enthralling tie against St Brigid's of Longford at Pearse Park yesterday.
In the end, however, the Meath outfit proved too potent. Curraha's midfield of David Toher and James McEntee ruled the aerial possession and contributed a combined tally of 1-5, while Conor Moriarty also had a terrific game for the green-and-gold and finished with 1-4 to his name.
Curraha bagged the game's first goal when McEntee coolly found the back of the Brigid's net.
But Brigid's rallied back and three excellent long-range scores from Willie Skelly left two points separating the sides at half-time.
Curraha extended their lead to five in the 36th minute when Neill Shorthall stuck a fist to the ball and directed it into the roof of the net.
Brigid's responded with a penalty from captain Johnny Casey and a series of crafted points from Mel Shanley and Emmet Skelly. However, Curraha regained control in the final quarter during which Moriarty obliged from the penalty spot.
