ALL-IRELAND COL SF 'A' SEMI-FINAL

St Colman's qualified for the final following an impressive and well-deserved win over St Gerald's at Pearse Park, Longford, on Saturday.

On the evidence of this polished performance, the Newry side will take a lot of beating in the decider. From start to finish they were the masters and had booked their place in the final long before the final whistle.

St Colman's victory was achieved by a tremendous team performance and Castlebar outfit St Gerald's were left with no excuses as they were simply outclassed by a far better team on the day.

Although playing against the wind in the opening 30 minutes, Colman's raced into a three-point lead after just four minutes with Chris Clarke, Colin Stevenson and man of the match Caolan Mooney getting on the scoresheet.

influential

David Stenson opened Gerald's account with a point in the fifth minute and although they added four more, three from Cillian O'Connor and one from Conor O'Shea, they still found themselves seven points behind at the break.

With Niall McParland and Conor Gough proving influential in the middle, Colman's kept driving forward and got the crucial score of the half in the 21st minute, when Mooney crashed the ball to the back of the net.

This goal, along with three points from Mooney, two from Donal O'Hare and one from Jerome Johnson, put them 1-9 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

On the resumption, Colman's continued to dominate and extended their lead with two more points from Mooney in the opening moments.

And although Gerald's replied with a pointed free by O'Connor in the 35th minute, they failed to add to their tally until the 50th minute when substitute Nathan O'Malley crashed home a goal. But in between these two scores, the winners had added three more points to their tally and were still seven ahead.

Gerald's kept plugging away, but it was Colman's substitute Ross McGarry who killed the game as a contest when he blasted his side's second goal three minutes from the end.
