Mighty Vaughan drives DLS onwards

DLS Macroom 1-9 Colaiste Chriost Ri 0-10

DESPITE scoring just three second-half points, De La Salle qualified for the final as they held off Colaiste Chriost Ri in Cloughduv.

Leading by 1-6 to 0-3 at half-time thanks to the midfield dominance of Peter Kelleher and Cathal Vaughan, the Macroom school looked set for an easy passage to the decider, but in the second half Paul Fitzgerald drove Chriost Ri on as they ate into the lead.

But some good points from Pa Lucey gave De La Salle breathing space.

In the first half, it was almost all De La Salle. After falling a point behind, they reeled off 1-4 without reply, John Murphy with two before Vaughan scored a fine goal.

Despite Conor Horgan ending a 10-minute Chriost Ri drought, a Vaughan point put six points between the teams at half-time.

By the time De La Salle scored again, Chriost Ri had added five points, but the Macroom school held out to book their place in the final.
