Meredith boost for Laois footballers
Laois footballers have been given a significant lift with the return of Conor Meredith to the squad.
Meredith had opted out at the start of the season because of exams but he has since completed them and has returned to training ahead of their Leinster Championship opener against Carlow.
Laois chairman Gerry Kavanagh confirmed that Meredith was back but Padraig McMahon, who left the squad during the league, is still too busy to commit.
Meanwhile, Galway manager Kevin Walsh has finalised his first championship team - which will again be captained by Paul Conroy - for the trip to New York at the weekend.
Walsh has named Brian O'Donoghue in goals as Manus Breathnach is injured, while Gareth Bradshaw is among the substitutes as he recovers from a knock.
Damien Comer has also been omitted as he recovers from a facial injury.
Cathal and Patrick Sweeney and Liam Silke are all included for their first championship starts for the Tribesmen.
