Offaly's footballers have been given a massive boost as championship looms on the horizon with Niall McNamee set to return to the Faithful senior set-up in the coming weeks.

McNamee's inter-county future was in serious doubt with Pat Flanagan admitting that he was in the dark about his intentions last month, but the Rhode attacker is poised to begin his 15th inter-county season.

The 31-year-old was non-committal on his future before the Leinster club SFC final defeat to St Vincent's in December, admitting "I'd miss it if I was away", and he's still in fine form, hitting eight points for Rhode in last weekend's Offaly SFC.

McNamee, widely regarded as one of the game's finest finishers, has been an ever-present in the Offaly attack since making his debut as a Leaving Cert student in 2003 and will bolster Flanagan's options ahead of their Leinster SFC quarter-final with Westmeath on June 11.
