McCormack magical as Killoe demolish St James
Emmet Og Killoe 5-11 St James 1-4
Longford champions Emmet Og Killoe advanced to the Leinster quarter-finals with an easy victory over St James of Wexford at Pearse Park yesterday.
Four goals in 15 minutes for Killoe practically killed the game, the floodgates opening after Sean McCormack set Mark Hughes up for their first goal of the afternoon.
Ten minutes into first half, things continued to deteriorate for the visitors. Another well-engineered move instigated by Mickey Quinn found McCormack, who offloaded to Denis McGoldrick, with the wing-forward picking his spot perfectly to fire home.
Killoe's third and fourth goal arrived almost one minute apart. A fine individual piece of skill from McCormack caught the opposition rearguard on the hop, and he fired home from close range. And straight from the kick-out, St James were on the back foot yet again, this time Larry Moran raising the green flag for the midlanders.
After the break, St James endeavoured to take the bad look off the game with a couple of long-range frees from Kevin O'Grady.
When they managed to breach the Killoe defence in the 38th minute, Adam Parle took everyone by surprise and bagged a brilliant goal from an acute position.
Soon after that score, however, Killoe's patience appeared to grow thin, and the side responded with five unanswered points to secure the spoils.
