McCartan fumes over bans
University of Limerick 0-12 Queen's University 1-8 Independent.ie Sigerson Cup
Queen's manager James McCartan said that while he didn't want to take anything away from UL's victory the row over player eligibility this week did little to help their cause.
McCartan himself was banned for 12 weeks but that was one of a number of suspensions rescinded, although they had to line out without Armagh's Ciaron O'Hanlon.
"We have been led a merry dance. I'm no lawyer but all I know is that I was suspended as manager of the team which didn't play any illegal players.
"Ciaron O'Hanlon would be a star performer for us, but I don't want to take anything from UL, they won it on the field and on merit," said McCartan.
UL, bidding for their first semi-final appearance since 1997, produced a blistering start with Bryan O'Shea from Kerry and Limerick's Kevin Moore helping them lead by 0-8 to 0-0 after just 14 minutes.
Queen's, who trailed by 0-8 to 0-2 at the break, came storming back in the second half and a goal from Marty Clarke after 47 minutes and points from impressive sub, Antrim's Brendan Bradley, helped them draw level with over 10 minutes remaining.
However, Queen's lost Down star Clarke to a black card and in the closing minutes O'Shea delivered the winner from a free to take his haul to 0-8.
