The winning margin of 12 points was no more than they deserved as Limerick were poor on the night. The home-side were first to draw blood with a Sean Malone point early on and as the half progressed, it was evident that he was The Banner's main man.

By half-time, Clare lead by 1-7 to 0-3, with the diminutive corner-forward recording 1-2 of that tally.  Limerick opened their account in the 12 minute from a Mikey Morrissey pointed free.  This score inspired the Shannonsiders to take a 0-3 to 0-1 lead by the 19th minute, but their ascendency was short-lived.

A goal from Malone in the 23rd minuted kick-started an impressive 1-5 to no reply by half-time and put the hosts firmly in pole position, despite playing against a strong breeze.  Clare grabbed the second-half's first two scores through Keelan Sexton as the Banner looked to maintain their dominance.

A goal by sub Conor Lynch in the 44th minute effectively ended the game as a contest  with Limerick struggling to make any impression on the scoreboard. Two points by substitue Adam Storan was all they could produce in the second period.
