Tomás O Flathart'a side were never in any trouble as they dominated from start to finish, leading by ten points at half time and pulling even further ahead after the break.

The first half was mostly one-way traffic, with Laois making the most of the wind advantage. Darren Strong pointed in the third minute and Laois steadily built their lead from there.

Colm Begley found the target from distance, with Donie Kingston getting in on the act soon after following a quick free from Ross Munnelly. Kingston added another a minute later, and further points from Conor Boyle and Darren Strong saw Laois lead by six points midway through the half.

Carlow finally opened their account from a Daniel St Ledger free in the 18th minute, and that sparked their most productive spell of the half. John O'Loughlin hit back for Laois but Kieran Nolan and Darragh Foley pointed in succession for Carlow to reduce the gap to three points.

If Carlow were thinking of reeling in the Laois lead from there, the idea was quickly dispelled. A flowing Laois move ended with Conor Boyle rounding goalkeeper Robbie Molloy and tapping into an empty net.

Three more Laois points before half time, from Evan O'Carroll, Donie Kingston and John O'Loughlin left Laois with a commanding 1-10 to 0-3 lead at the break.

The lead only grew from there, with Donie Kingston's brilliant goal in 53rd minute wrapping up the win for Laois. The final say went to Laois substitute Tom Shiel, who cut in brilliantly along the left wing before hammering in his team's third goal.

Laois now progress to the quarter-finals, where they will meet Kildare in O'Connor Park on June 6.
