Lambert fires Saints past battling Buffers

St Martin's 0-16 Buffers Alley 1-12

BARRY LAMBERT'S 10 points helped St Martin's end the Buffers Alley challenge but they only had the minimum to spare.

St Martin's raced into a 0-6 to 0-1 lead by the eighth minute. Buffers Alley, who relied on Keith Burke for their scores, clawed their way back but with Eoin Quigley dominant in midfield it was the winners who led 0-10 to 0-5 at the interval.

The second half was one of twists and turns and, with Burke hitting three unanswered points, Buffers Alley close the gap, 0-11 to 0-8. A Lambert point lifted the siege, but after 47 minutes Pat Doran forced home a Buffers Alley goal to cut the deficit to 0-12 to 1-8. The sides continued to trade points but St Martin's held on in a tight finish.
