A deflected goal from a shot by Cork senior star Paul Kerrigan was the turning-point when Cork IT beat Limerick in the McGrath Cup quarter-final at Foynes.
The Cork side led by 1-4 to 0-5 at the end of a closely-contested first half with Kerry star Barry John Walsh scoring the goal, which sailed into the net from a 40-metre free.
Limerick picked themselves up after the break and scored five points without reply to lead by 0-11 to 1-6.
But CIT's second goal was a killer blow for Limerick when Kerrigan's shot took a deflection off Stephen Lavin and gave debutant goalkeeper Brian Moran no chance.
Limerick welcomed back Stephen Kelly who missed Saturday's game against Waterford IT because he was on duty for Shannon in the AIB League.
But the greater strength of the Cork IT substitute panel made the difference with Daniel Goulding going into the action at the interval and Kerrigan taking over from Ryan Leahy early in the second period.
Ian Ryan was Limerick's top scorer with three points, all frees, but a colsolation for Mickey Ned O'Sullivan was that eight of his players got on the scoresheet.
