Kildare corner-forwards Ciaran Kelly and Jimmy Hyland didn't disappoint, scoring 1-10 between them, as the reigning Leinster minor champions progressed against a disjointed Westmeath.

The young Lilies made a blistering start in front of the home crowd at Newbridge with a goal from a Ciaran Kelly penalty in the first minute.

Kildare led by eight points at the break.

Kildare's forward stars of Hyland, Kelly and Jack Robinson ensured that a revived second-half performance from Westmeath came to little.
