Kavanagh sends Crokes into decider
Kilmacud Crokes 1-10
St Vincent's 1-9
Dublin SFC semi-final
Longford man Brian Kavanagh was the hero of the day as his scores helped Kilmacud Crokes progress past St Vincents to set up a Northside versus Southside final against St Brigids.
The Marino side had got off to a flying start, Tomas Quinn sending over a free within the opening minute with Diarmuid Connolly following up with another point four minutes later.
The tide turned in the southside outfit's favour however, when, after seven minutes, referee Brian O'Shea awarded Crokes a penalty for an off-the-ball foul on Kilmacud full-forward Kavanagh as an Adrian Morrissey free-kick was sailing in.
Having won the kick, Kavanagh took it himself, scoring from the spot to put Crokes ahead, a position they wouldn't relinquish.
Vincents were playing their second game in five days, having beaten Ballyboden St Endas earlier in the week, while Kilmacud were coming in off the back of a two-week layoff.
Vincents' midweek excursions were showing throughout the first half with Quinn's form in front of the posts being somewhat erratic.
After the break it looked as though Crokes were coasting to the final but, on 52 minutes, Diarmuid Connolly netted for Vincents to make it 1-10 to 1-6 with eight minutes to play.
Points from Quinn brought the 2007 All-Ireland champions to within a point of equalising but by then they were battling against the clock, and Kilmacud hung on to secure their final spot.
