Cian Johnston bagged 2-5, all from play, as Offaly completely outclassed a feeble Wexford side at Enniscorthy yesterday.

Offaly raced into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead inside the opening eight minutes through points from Mark Newman (2), Johnston and Nathan Poland, with Wexford having to wait until the 12th minute to get off the mark with a Jamie Myler free.

Despite the best efforts of Myler, the Model county were struggling in most departments.

Myler, having been yellow carded, was strangely substituted on 24 minutes and with him went any hope of a Wexford recovery as the Faithful went on to lead 0-9 to 0-3 at the interval.

Offaly were dominating midfield thanks to the fine play of Mark Newman and ran away with it in the second half.

Their opening goal was a splendid Cian Farrell finish on 36 minutes, giving them a 1-12 to 0-3 lead.

With Wexford unable to win any worthwhile possession, Johnston got a brace of goals to stretch the lead.

Wexford had to wait until the 51st minute for their opening score from play, a David Gouldson point. Offaly play Westmeath on Saturday.
