Jarlath's inspired by Walsh show

St JARLATH'S 1-14 COLAISTE CHRIOST RI 0-14

TUAM kingpins St Jarlath's added another chapter to their Hogan Cup story when beating Coláiste Chríost Rí in a splendid clash at Claughan.

That Jarlath's had to strain every sinew to secure a berth in the decider against St Colman's, Newry at Croke Park on April 9, added to the sense of satisfaction.

The triumph confirmed that the Tuam nursery has constructed another passionate and purposeful team to try and add to their haul of 12 Hogan Cups

The Connacht side kicked five points in the opening nine minutes in a sparkling spell of football.

Shane Walsh (2), Gearoid Armstrong, Adrian Varley, and Adrian Nolan all lofted over scores.

Gradually Chríost Rí became competitive, with Luke Conneely and Eoin McGreevy troubling a Jarlath's defence that was anchored superbly by the excellent Nolan. Chríost Rí hit four points in a row to narrow the deficit, but then Jarlath's hit a match-winning 1-2 without reply.

Liam Silke and the impressive Walsh pointed before Conor McNamara ended a sweeping 27th-minute move with an opportunistic goal. Jarlath's went in 1-8 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

In the second half, Jarlath' s were efficient on their sporadic trips into Rebel territory, with Ian Burke rifling over three points at critical times, and man of the match Walsh landing an equally important score just after Chríost Rí had come within a whisker of netting a goal.

In a furious finale, Jarlath's stayed composed for a deserved victory.
