The Cookstown man, better known as 'Mugsie', isn't part of Mickey Harte's current panel due his club's All-Ireland club IFC final against Finuge of Kerry on Saturday week. However, despite speculation about his future with Tyrone, he insists there's still "a few years left" in him at the highest level.

"I was talking to Mickey before Christmas and he told me to go on ahead with the Cookstown campaign," said the 31-year-old. "I'll give him a ring to see what the craic is after. I think there's a few more years left in me yet."

A holder of three All-Ireland medals, Mulligan has seen several of Tyrone's old guard move on. As it stands, Conor Gormley and Stephen O'Neill are the only players who started the breakthrough 2003 All-Ireland final that are still active with the county.

Mulligan also started that day, but conceded he didn't do enough to impress the watching Harte in Cookstown's Ulster final win over Down's Warrenpoint.

"It's totally up to him. I don't know. He hasn't said 'yes' and he hasn't said 'no'," Mulligan said. "I'll give him a ring. I think he was at the Ulster IFC final, but he couldn't have been impressed with my performance that day.

"I have been lucky enough in that I haven't had too many injury problems in the last six years. I'm feeling great, I had a reasonable enough game in the semi-final and I think I would be able for it if Mickey asked me."

Tyrone have already collected the McKenna Cup this year and Mulligan sees enough talent in the county to be challenging for an All-Ireland honours at the end of the year.

"If I was coming back, it would be to win another All-Ireland. The way the boys are talking and texting, it's going well," Mulligan said.
