Horgan heroics enough for Macroom

DLS Macroom 1-15, Colaiste Chriost Ri 0-13

DAVID HORGAN was the hero as De La Salle Macroom qualified for the quarter-finals with a late scoring burst against defending champions Colaiste Chriost Ri in Cloughduv.

Trailing by 0-12 to 0-9 with 10 minutes left, Macroom outscored the holders 1-6 to 0-1 with the wind at their backs. Horgan pounced for the all-important goal six minutes from the end after the excellent Daniel Twomey had seen his shot charged down.

The result leaves the holders needing to overcome Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh in the concluding pool game to keep alive their hopes.

Colaiste Chriost Ri led 0-8 to 0-6 at half-time, thanks largely to the fine free-taking of Conor Horgan, but Macroom's storming finish changed the game's complexion.
