MAYO gained revenge for their league final defeat to Roscommon last April when a strong showing in the final quarter procured a five-point victory over the home side in Athleague.
Roscommon found themselves 1-8 to 0-7 ahead in the 46th minute but it all went pear-shaped for Seamus Qualter's men from that point onwards.
Declan Nolan received a straight red card before Mayo went for the jugular, reeling off nine unanswered points to run out comfortable winners in the end.
Keith Higgins was immense for the visitors, scoring 10 points in testing conditions.
Roscommon started brightly and were helped by Gerry Fallon's 11th-minute goal from a 13-metre free.
They were 1-5 to 0-4 ahead at the break but Mayo's superior fitness level told in the final 20 minutes.
