Healy tips balance for Carlow IT
IT Carlow 1-10 IT Sligo 0-10
A 10th-minute goal from Chris Healy proved crucial at the IT Carlow grounds.
With the sides level five times, Healy's goal provided the hosts with a significant early boost playing into a strong wind.
Carlow coped well with the Sligo challenge in that opening half, with the visitors highly reliant on Adam Traynor for scores.
The Monaghan man scored 0-5 in the first half, three from play, as the sides were tied 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.
Cian Clinton's free put Sligo ahead but a brace of long-range points from Mark Russell lifted home morale.
The sides traded scores and Carlow were indebted to goalkeeper Robert Samson for keeping out Cathal Surlis' shot in the 58th minute, when there was just a point in it.
Points from Michael Hurley and Chris Conroy (free) put the seal on a narrow but deserved win for IT Carlow. Conroy top-scored with 0-6, his free-taking highly impressive as he raised five white flags from placed balls.
