Andrew Glennon's hat-trick of goals on his competitive debut helped Roscommon obliterate IT Sligo's challenge in Boyle.

Glennon palmed three efforts into the net as the home side ran riot against porous opposition. Ciaráin Murtagh, Diarmuid Murtagh and debutant Shane Killoran also raised green flags as Roscommon won by 24 points.

"We got a run on them early and the game was over at half-time," said Roscommon manager Kevin McStay. "Other than it being a good workout for us and seeing some of the new lads in this environment, there wasn't a whole lot you could read into it."

Roscommon were 2-16 to 0-3 ahead at the break. Glennon teed up Ciaráin Murtagh for his side's first goal in the sixth minute before the Roscommon captain returned the favour for Glennon 17 minutes later.

IT Sligo came more into proceedings in the second half, frees from James Shaughnessy and a flurry of points from play from Colm Reape, Cathal McGettigan, Ray Connolly, Rob Gorman and Andrew Wharton offered some resistance but Killoran pounced for his side's sixth goal with six minutes remaining.
