Game At A Glance

man of the match

Lee Kennedy (Derry)

Hard to separate Kennedy and Ryan Bell, but Kennedy edged the honours. He consistently got out in front of Sligo skipper Ross Donovan and laid on several scores for his team-m ates.

TURNING POINT

Derry started the game like a house on fire with seven points in a row in the first 15 minutes as Sligo's chances fluttered away.

TALKING POINT

Will Derry be able to produce that kind of attacking play against a more cynical side? What will the next round of qualifiers hand to Brian McIver's side?

MAGIC MOMENT

Twelve minutes into the second half Ryan Bell kicked the sweetest point he is ever likely to score. From wide on the right he sliced over off the outside of his right boot.

REF WATCH

Martin Higgins seemed loathe to award frees at times which resulted in a flowing game.

WHAT THEY SAID

Kevin Walsh (Sligo manager)

"We broke the line on numerous occasions, but we just didn't take those chances we made."

Brian McIver (Derry manager)

"We started very well; our forward line has been playing well all year."
