GAA timing out of sync

The scheduling of the All-Ireland football championship needs to be looked at.

Kerry are box office, Mayo are a big crowd-puller too, and both are in action today. When Kerry last played, as Paul Galvin pointed out recently, Euro 2012 was just entering its third day of a full month of football and a ball had yet to be hit in anger at Wimbledon.

Mayo play in a Connacht final this afternoon. It's their second game of the summer despite the fact that the championship began 11 weeks ago. Longford, meanwhile, have played five games and Meath four -- albeit both had replays. Others, like Galway and Tyrone, have had three games. It just doesn't make sense.
