Fresh blow for Cork football as Ciaran Sheehan signs two-year deal with AFL club Carlton Blues
CORK football has been dealt a fresh blow after Ciaran Sheehan revealed today he will join AFL club Carlton Blues in Melbourne next January.
Carlton have handed the 22-year-old full-forward a two-year deal, coming on the back of a fine performance for Ireland in the International Rules series against Australia.
But Sheehan’s departure will further trouble the Rebels, already rocked by the retirement in recent days of Alan Quirke, Pearse O’Neill, Paudie Kissane and Graham Canty.
Sheehan had previously tried out with Carlton in 2009 but decided against the move because of homesickness. He will join other GAA stars at Melbourne including Louth’s Ciaran Byrne and Laois player Zach Tuohy.
