Finnegan's late flourish leaves Rock floundering
Brosna (Kerry) 1-8 Rock St Patrick (Tyr) 0-7
Brosna booked their place in the final against John Mitchels on Valentine's Day after finishing strongly in this semi-final replay at Ballinasloe.
Brosna led 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time yesterday but failed to score again until the 56th minute; in the meantime, however, Rock corner-back Ryan Crilly saw red while captain and centre-back Aidan Girvan got black.
Mike Finnegan's goal for the Kerry side with four minutes to go was the decisive score and when he tacked on another point shortly afterwards, the Kerry champions were turning their attention to Croke Park.
The game was rip-roaring from the outset, with an effort from Conor McCreesh leaving Brosna ahead by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.
Crilly was sent off for a high tackle on Tom McGoldrick but a Martin McCreesh free dragged Rock back within one point before former Tyrone star Ciaran Gourley levelled it for the fifth time.
But Brosna excelled in the closing stages and a goal and a point from Finnegan gave them their ticket for Croke Park as the Rock challenge faded.
