A member of the Mayo team that reached a first All-Ireland final in 38 years has passed away after a long illness.
Greg Maher, who played wing forward on the team that lost the 1989 decider to Cork, was 49.
He passed away early this morning after a long illness, the Mayo News confirmed.
Maher, an All-Ireland minor champion with his county in 1985, lined out in the senior final four years later alongside his brother Sean, who played in midfield that day.
Mayo will look to end their All-Ireland final drought after 65 years when they take on Dublin in Croke Park this Sunday.
