FERGAL DUFFY shot a whopping 2-1 as Dublin captured the Ulster minor football league title with a crushing 12-point victory over Tyrone, at Kingspan Breffni Park last night.

The Ballinteer St John's clubman found the net twice in the first half, beating 'keeper Mark McReynolds on nine and 10 minutes.

For his first effort, Duffy, whose blistering pace constantly troubled the Tyrone rearguard, blasted the ball past McReynolds with his right foot. And for his second, Duffy coolly slid the ball home with his left foot.

Duffy's second strike powered the Dubs into a 2-3 to 0-1 lead. And after Tyrone reduced the deficit to 0-7 to 2-4 after 16 minutes, Val Andrews' charges finished the first half the stronger side, shooting an unanswered five points to lead 2-9 to 0-7.

With the wind behind them in the second half, Dublin's only concern was when Tyrone were awarded a penalty after just a minute. But goalkeeper Colin Murphy brilliantly saved Conan Grugan's spot kick, and the Ulster side were restricted to just one point on the restart.

Duffy was far from being the only star on the Dublin side, with Michael Gibbs and Harry Dawson turning in five-star performances at centre-back and full-forward respectively.
