Dubs triumph as Hawk-Eye makes debut

THE football championship made its first appearance in Croke Park last night and with it came the new technology of Hawk-Eye – the system designed to do away with that peculiarly GAA phenomenon of 'the point that never was'.

While the new system was used to settle a wide in the Kildare v Offaly opener, old technology of half-decent eyesight was sufficient to see the gulf in class between Westmeath and Dublin in the second tie. Kildare beat Offaly 0-19 to 1-12 while Dublin won with a 1-22 to 0-9 scoreline.
