Dubs call for earlier end to All-Irelands

CHAIRMAN Andy Kettle believes that the Dublin County Board will bring a motion to next year's GAA Annual Congress calling for the All-Ireland hurling and football finals to be played in August.
Kettle believes that such a move will help to avoid the situation which saw Dublin reliant on the goodwill of other Leinster counties so that the county's club kingpins could be represented in the provincial championships.
The Leinster Council voted through massive concessions to Dublin last Wednesday, with the tie between the Dublin and Meath football champions pushed back by three weeks, from October 23 to November 13.
The Leinster final will now take place on December 18 and not December 4, while Dublin's club hurling champions will play the Westmeath winners on November 6, a week later than originally planned.
"We're looking at all ways possible that it won't happen in the future," Kettle said. "There is a possibility that we will be putting down a motion for Congress to bring the All-Irelands back into August."
