Doyle penalty double key for Dundalk
HOLDERS Dundalk Colleges recovered from a six-point deficit to claim a semi-final spot at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday as two penalty goals from Cian Doyle proved crucial in a hard-fought tie.
There were just two scores in the final quarter, with Paul Kingston, brother of Laois county star Donie, edging Knockbeg ahead with his fourth point of the game on 47 minutes.
But the match-winning score came two minutes later when Doyle converted his second penalty following a foul on Ciaran Byrne.
The Carlow college had started with a cracking goal from Eoin O'Dwyer on four minutes and went 1-3 ahead before Doyle contributed three points and converted a spot-kick to reduce the deficit.
Knockbeg still led 1-5 to 1-4 at the break but Brian McLaughlin's goal and Doyle's second penalty spearheaded Dundalk's fightback.
