Doran points way for Knockbeg
Michael Doran fired over nine points in an impressive display of marksmanship as Knockbeg College eased past Maynooth.
Knockbeg, featuring four of the Laois minor squad, restricted Maynooth to just two first-half points - both from Paddy Heven frees - scoring six themselves.
Maynooth were lucky not to have conceded a goal midway through the half as Doran had an effort chalked off for a foul ongoalkeeper Oisín Deveraux.
Dominant Knockbeg should have been further ahead but hit six wides.
Knockbeg had another missed goal opportunity on the restart as Kevin Higgins sent the ball wide.
Maynooth started the second half with more determination, scoring three points in six minutes.
However, frees from Doran and Darren Lunney kept Knockbeg well ahead.
The Kildare side took a huge blow when Knockbeg, managed by former Laois great Chris Conway, sent a high ball into the danger zone and substitute Johnny Byrne stuck the ball in the back of the net.
A fine save from Deveraux in the dying minutes kept the margin at 10 points.
