New York manager Justin O'Halloran has named five of the side that came within a whisker of making history and seeing off Roscommon last year for Sunday's Connacht SFC clash with Sligo.

Vinny Cadden, Ger McCartan, Keith Quinn and Brendan Gallagher all started in that game 12 months ago, while Shane Hogan featured off the bench as Roscommon escaped from Gaelic Park with a one-point win.

Ex-Mayo defender Tom Cunniffe starts at corner-back, while former Dublin hurling All-Star Danny Sutcliffe lines out at right half-forward.

Former Armagh attacker Eugene McVerry is at corner-forward, while other notables include former Donegal footballer Ross Wherity and Wicklow's Conor McGraynor, who kicked the winning point for DCU in the 2015 Sigerson Cup final.

Elsewhere, Johnny Buckley will captain the Kerry footballers for 2017 after being nominated by his club, county champions Dr Crokes.

New York (SFC v Sligo) - V Cadden; T Cunniffe, D Cunnane, P Witherow; G McCartan, D Culhane, K Quinn; B Gallagher, S Hogan; D Sutcliffe, C McGraynor, R Wherity; D McKenna, S O'Connor, E McVerry.
